Digestive Health

How we support digestive health

Over 70% of our immune system is located in our gut, so maintaining good digestive health is essential to support our immunity and overall health and wellness.

Quantec bioactive whey protein ingredients provide support for good digestive health. The selective anti-microbial properties of our bioactive proteins effectively inhibit pathogens and viruses that can attack our cells, while the anti-inflammatory properties modulate inflammation and support tight junctions in the gut. The intestinal barrier function plays an important role in health and preventing disease. Results in a recently published study found Quantec bioactive whey proteins can improve intestinal barrier integrity*.

Why digestive health is important for your immune system

The intestinal mucosa in the gut is considered to be one of the biggest immune organs in the body, and up to 70% of the immune system is located in the gut. Maintaining good gut health is a key element of a healthy, balanced immune system. The gut and immune system form a complex integrated structure that has evolved to provide effective digestion and defence against ingested toxins and pathogenic bacteria.

Immune cells in the gut interact with the gut microbiome. The microbiome is a diverse array of bacteria that live in the gastrointestinal tract and are directly influenced by our diet and lifestyle.
The foods we eat can affect the composition and diversity of the microbiome, which in turn can influence our immune system. One of the main problems associated with compromised digestive health is that the intestinal lining becomes leaky.

In a healthy gut, the cells lining the intestine are held together with tight junctions. If the tight junctions stop working correctly (due to inflammation or infection), food particles, toxins or bacteria present in the gut can potentially leak into the bloodstream**. As these components do not belong outside of the gut, the immune system views them as a threat and attacks them. Such dysfunctions within the gut are increasingly being linked to chronic inflammation, which contributes to the development of diseases such as intestinal inflammatory disorders, cancer, diabetes and obesity** .

Quantec bioactive whey protein ingredients were created by nature to support the body's digestive immune defense systems, actively inhibiting pathogens and supporting tight gut junctions.
